The Board of Directors of SEAPAL Vallarta has reaffirmed its support for a major infrastructure effort designed to secure long-term water supply for Puerto Vallarta.
During a recent session, board members backed the coordinated work led by Mayor Luis Munguía and SEAPAL General Director Carlos Ruiz, in collaboration with the Government of Jalisco, to advance the Water Intake Project. The initiative is considered a priority to meet rising demand driven by the city’s steady growth.
The governing body—made up of business leaders, citizens, and academic representatives—highlighted the importance of working together on infrastructure that supports economic development, tourism, and population expansion in one of Mexico’s leading Pacific destinations.
With an estimated investment of 900 million pesos, the project centers on the construction of a diversion intake at the confluence of the Mascota River and Ameca River. It is being promoted under the administration of Governor Pablo Lemus and is currently under review at the state level due to its long-term benefits.
The proposal aligns with other major developments shaping the region, including Terminal 2 at Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport, the Amado Nervo Bridge, and the Civil Hospital of the Coast.
According to technical plans, the project will unfold in three phases. The initial stage calls for a combined investment of 450 million pesos from the state and just over 100 million pesos from SEAPAL Vallarta. This phase would add 300 liters per second to the system, meeting projected demand through 2032.
Once fully completed, the system could deliver up to an additional 1,000 liters per second, reaching a total capacity of 2,342 liters per second—enough to ensure a reliable drinking water supply for Puerto Vallarta for the next 50 years.
