Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Aiming to fundamentally address a long-standing sanitary drainage issue, SEAPAL Vallarta has launched the second phase of work in the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood. This project will expand wastewater conveyance capacity and strengthen the sanitary network’s operation, benefiting local families.
The project’s kickoff was led by SEAPAL Vallarta General Director Carlos Alberto Ruiz, accompanied by neighborhood residents and representatives.
During the event, the official explained that this intervention builds upon the first phase, which involved rehabilitating a siphon located at this site. Now, a section of the existing sub-collector will be replaced to increase capacity and create an additional wastewater discharge route.
Furthermore, this project reinforces SEAPAL Vallarta’s efforts to address and prevent sanitary infrastructure issues – following recent problems in the Versalles neighborhood – by increasing conveyance capacity and improving wastewater management options in this part of the city.
“Every action we take involves community outreach. We know that construction work can cause traffic and some inconvenience, but it is temporary, and the benefit will be permanent. Today, we are rectifying an inherited problem and implementing a solution that will provide greater peace of mind and better conditions for families in this area,” stated Carlos Ruiz.
A higher-capacity network
The work entails installing 66 linear meters of 20-inch diameter pipe – replacing the existing 15″ line – and constructing two manholes.
René Segura, Head of the Supervision and Works Department, explained that the project presents a technical challenge due to the depth required for installing the new infrastructure.
The project is estimated to take approximately six weeks to complete. As part of the operations, intermittent road closures will take place at the intersection of Las Palmas and México avenues. SEAPAL Vallarta therefore asks residents and motorists to take precautions, heed warning signs, and follow the instructions of municipal traffic officers.
With this second phase, SEAPAL Vallarta – backed by the municipal government led by Mayor Luis Munguía – is advancing a comprehensive project to upgrade the sanitary infrastructure in the Parque Las Palmas area while simultaneously strengthening network capacity to meet current local challenges.
The project will help improve sanitary drainage services, reduce risks associated with insufficient network capacity, and continue protecting the health of local families and the environment.
