Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The 12th edition of the SEAPAL Vallarta Half Marathon and 22nd Recreational Race was held on Sunday, March 24th, attracting approximately 1,000 runners.
Following opening remarks by interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil and race director Eraclio Galván Mendoza, the races began at 7:00 am. Both the half marathon and recreational race followed the traditional route, starting and finishing near the Agustín Flores Contreras Municipal Sports Unit and traversing Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue to the Las Juntas intersection.
Kenyan runner Gesabwa Rodgers Ondati dominated the men’s half marathon with a time of 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 50 seconds. Orlando Casillas Vázquez (1:04:20) and Abraham Daniel Hernández Martell (1:04:48) followed to complete the winners’ podium.
Fanny Jaqueline Oropeza Vázquez of Jalisco triumphed in the women’s half marathon, clocking 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 45 seconds. Daniela Alejandra Alonso Arreola (1:17:34) and Genoveva Jelagat Kigen (1:20:01) secured second and third place, respectively.
Iván Ulises García Quintero (15:19) emerged victorious in the men’s 5-kilometer recreational race. Carlos Alberto Arcadia Vargas (16:47) and Humberto Meza Peña (16:53) finished second and third.
Andrea Berenice Gutiérrez González (18:53) led the women’s 5-kilometer race, followed by Ariadna Abigail Rivera Rivero (19:18) and Gabriela Anahí Villegas Mendiola (21:04).
Spectators, including local residents and visitors, filled the esplanade of the sports unit, creating a vibrant atmosphere with music and environmental awareness themes.
The race concluded four days of activities celebrating World Water Day 2024. It served as a memorable event uniting local and national athletes, international participants, and enthusiasts. The event promoted water conservation, healthy living, and sports tourism.
