Tepic-Compostela Highway Expected to be Complete by Mid-September

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico – Nayarit Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero announced that the Tepic-Compostela highway will be completed by mid-September. This 26-kilometer stretch of road will provide a direct route from Tepic, the state capital, to the Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, bypassing the winding coastal roads.

The new highway will take motorists on a trip through the Nayarit countryside, reducing travel time to just 90 minutes. It will connect travelers to popular destinations like San Blas, known for its historical sites and charming town square, and Sayulita, famous for world-class surfing. Punta Mita, with its luxurious resorts and secluded beaches, will also be more easily accessible.

But the good news doesn’t stop there. Construction is underway on a spur route from Bucerías to Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Completion of this extension is expected to coincide with the highway opening, potentially shaving another 25 minutes off your travel time.

Governor Navarro Quintero hinted at a grand opening ceremony with both President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, highlighting the infrastructure project’s significance.

Beyond the convenience for travelers, this highway promises a boom for the local economy. The Nayarit Tourism Secretariat is already predicting a stellar summer season, with an expected 3 billion pesos in revenue and over 2 million tourist visits. With the improved accessibility brought about by the new highway, these numbers are likely to soar even higher, solidifying Nayarit’s position as a prime Mexican vacation destination.
