Unemployment Rate in Jalisco Falls to 2.4% in March

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – In the first quarter of 2022, the unemployment rate in Jalisco stood at 2.4 percent.

According to a report from the State Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information (IIEG), the economically active population (PEA) of men decreased by almost 26,000 in round numbers, going from 2,477,000 to 2,451,000 between the last quarter of 2021 and January through March of 2022.

On the other hand, the non-economically active population (PNEA) grew, made up of people who did not carry out any economic activity, but were not looking for work either. This sector went from 662,000 to 708,000 – an increase of 46,000 unemployed people.

The data in the IIEG report comes from the most recent National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE).

On the other hand, the number of women working increased. The employed PEA of women went from 1,526,000 to almost 1,556,000, which represents almost 30,000 more working women – or a 2 percent increase.

The report also shows that the informal job rate for men fell from 46 to 45.2 percent, while that of women had a marginal increase – from 48 to 48.1 percent.

Finally, the report reveals that among men the number of subordinate and paid workers fell by 1.1 percent, as well as that of employers by 4.5 percent, leaving 1,712,000 employees and 179,000 employers.
