Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The 2024 Vallarta Bird Festival is coming up on Sunday, February 25th, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Held at the Vallarta Botanical Garden, this festival celebrates the rich variety of birds and nature found in Mexico, particularly in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes, and Bahía de Banderas.

Situated on 74 acres at 1,300 feet above sea level in bird-filled Cabo Corrientes, the Vallarta Botanical Garden offers excellent birdwatching opportunities. More than 200 different bird species have been spotted and recorded by locals and visitors within the Garden.

Founded in 2004, the Vallarta Botanical Garden has been dedicated to protecting endangered species and habitats. One significant conservation effort is focused on the military macaw, a species that was disappearing from the area. Thanks to ongoing projects like artificial nest boxes, the Garden has helped in the reproduction of these majestic birds, and wild military macaws can now be seen there regularly.

The Vallarta Bird and Nature Festival aims to raise awareness about birds and nature, encouraging people to get involved in wildlife and habitat conservation efforts in Mexico.

During this year’s festival, attendees can enjoy various fun and educational activities at the Vallarta Botanical Garden. These include presentations, specially designed activities for children, and a guided bird tour starting at 7:30 am.

Join this birding walk through the Garden for an early exploration of the various trails to see what birds are visiting the Horcones River area. You may find several species of orioles, Military Macaws, many warbler species, West Mexican Euphonias, Citreoline Trogons, Blue and Painted Buntings, and Squirrel Cuckoos. There have been sightings of the elusive Crested Guan. The river attracts Spotted Sandpipers (wintering), Black Phoebes, several types of flycatchers, Black Vultures, and sometimes even cormorants.

The tour will conclude in time for presentations and children’s activities in the Hall of Flowers.
