Vallarta Celebrates Women March 2-8

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Observed every year on March 8 International Women’s Day is a worldwide event rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. Here in Puerto Vallarta, a week full of activities will celebrate women’s achievements, while calling for gender equality.

At a press conference on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, DIF President Candelaria Tovar de Dávalos and Bertha Leticia Dueñas Aréchiga, who heads the Municipal Women’s Institute (IMM), invited all women, and the men who support them, to participate in the series of conferences and activities designed to educate, motivate and celebrate the women of Puerto Vallarta, from March 2-8, 2020.

Propelled by a rising determination for change, the first event will be the “Zero Tolerance for Harassment on Public Transportation” campaign on March 2, when a group of collaborators will board buses to raise awareness about this aggression by offering information to female passengers.

Later that day, “The Policy for Equality Between Women and Men” an informative conference will be presented by Muriel Araceli Salinas Día at the Centro Universitario de la Costa from 12-1 pm. Another not-to-be-missed event will be a “Talk Between Women” at Sunscape Hotel on March 5th.

The highlight of Women’s Week will be the 2020 Recognition of Women ceremony, which will be held in the central courtyard of the presidency at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 6. At this event, local women who were nominated by fellow Vallartans for their outstanding achievements in the Transforming Power, Art and Culture, Citizenship, Science and Technology, Entrepreneurship, Health and Sports, and Balance of Life and Work categories, will be recognized and celebrated.

A Recreational Athletic Race at 8:00 am on Sunday, March 8 at the Agustín Flores Contreras sports stadium, will bring the Puerto Vallarta Women’s Week celebrations to a close.

All activities are free and open to the public.

International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day, or IWD, has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow. Join activists around the world to seize the moment, take action and transform women’s lives everywhere.
