Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The new municipal administration in Puerto Vallarta is making significant strides in addressing the city’s longstanding garbage collection issues. According to Javier Navarro, director of Municipal Public Services, the situation has improved considerably since taking office in October.
Navarro acknowledged the inherited challenges from the previous administration but emphasized the positive impact of collaborative efforts with citizens and local organizations. “While we received a difficult situation, we’re making steady progress,” he said. “With everyone’s support, we’re moving towards a cleaner and more organized city.”
One of the immediate actions taken by the administration was to organize clean-up brigades involving citizens, local groups, and even visiting Japanese ship crews. These efforts have helped to address the accumulation of garbage in various neighborhoods, including Pitillal, Mojoneras, and Boca de Tomates.
Navarro urged the community to play a vital role by respecting collection times and avoiding illegal dumping. “By working together, we can eliminate these problems,” he stated.
The municipal government has also made it easier for citizens to report garbage accumulation on their streets through social media channels, ensuring prompt attention to critical areas.
In addition to the deployment of nine new garbage collection trucks, the administration has been working tirelessly to keep as many of the aging and undermaintained trucks in the fleet as operational as possible. “They’ve faced significant wear and tear, but thanks to our dedicated workshop team, we’ve managed to increase the number of trucks in service,” Navarro explained.
Navarro concluded by emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between the administration and citizens. “With everyone’s help, we can achieve a cleaner and more orderly Puerto Vallarta.”
