Vallarta Upgrades Waste Management with Four New Compactor Trucks

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Last week, Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez took a significant step towards enhancing the city’s waste management system by introducing four state-of-the-art compactor trucks. This move aims to streamline garbage collection, particularly in the busy tourist areas, while bolstering service across all residential neighborhoods.

Dozens of residents witnessed the handover ceremony at the Agustín Flores Contreras sports unit, where the Mayor was joined by councilors and officials. The new trucks bring the city’s fleet to 36, tackling the daily challenge of collecting roughly 490 tons of garbage – a figure that spikes to 620 tons during peak tourist season.

“These compactors, with their 9-ton capacity, will significantly improve public collection on all 43 routes, operating across morning, afternoon, and dedicated night shifts for the tourist zone,” explained José Ascención Gil Calleja, Director of Municipal Public Services. “As our population grows, we need to adapt, and these trucks are a crucial step.”

The nearly 12.8 million peso investment, funded by the Zofemat Fund, promises benefits beyond cleaner streets. The tourism and hospitality sectors, along with local businesses and residents, will directly experience the improved service. This, in turn, aims to boost the city’s economic and tourist potential, attracting more visitors to enjoy its pristine environment.

The heavy-duty trucks not only promise cleaner streets but also improved working conditions for sanitation workers. Reduced collection times across all areas will benefit Vallarta’s 300,000 residents, while the trucks themselves boast features that minimize wear and tear and prioritize worker safety.

This investment is just the beginning. The Public Services department is set to receive nine vans, three cranes, and even four ambulances for the Civil Protection and Fire Department, solidifying Mezcales’ commitment to a cleaner, safer future for all.
