Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Puerto Vallarta International Airport reached new heights in 2024, welcoming over 6.8 million passengers – a record-breaking figure. This slight 0.2% increase from 2023 reflects the airport’s strength in navigating industry challenges, according to Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).
December 2024 saw mixed results, with Puerto Vallarta experiencing a 1.8% dip in passenger traffic compared to the same month in 2023. Despite this, domestic arrivals surged by 7.7% for the month, totaling 248,300 passengers. International arrivals also showed a positive trend, climbing 6.5% to 437,000 passengers.
Overall, the airport recorded 2.84 million domestic passengers in 2024, reflecting a slight 0.6% drop from the previous year. Meanwhile, international travelers reached nearly 4 million, a modest 0.9% increase over 2023.
GAP’s 12 Mexican airports collectively recorded a 3.4% rise in passenger traffic for December. While Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos saw slight declines, Guadalajara and Tijuana posted notable increases of 8.2% and 2.7%, respectively. Among airports with smaller passenger volumes, Los Mochis and Manzanillo stood out with remarkable growth of 24.3% and 21%.
Although the number of seats offered in December decreased by 3.1%, the occupancy rate improved significantly, jumping from 80.4% in 2023 to 85.5% in 2024.
Several new routes were added in December, expanding travel options for both domestic and international passengers. These new routes include connections to key destinations in Mexico and the U.S., further enhancing the airport’s connectivity and attracting a wider range of travelers.
Looking ahead, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is well-positioned for continued growth and success, driven by its strong performance, expanding route network, and commitment to providing a positive travel experience for all passengers.
