Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Vallarta International Charro Championship is set to kick off 2025 with excitement and tradition from January 30 to February 2 at the Lienzo Charro Miguel “Prieto” Ibarría in Puerto Vallarta. This iconic event celebrates Mexico’s national sport, Charrería, and promises an unforgettable experience for spectators of all ages.
Charrería, a centuries-old tradition recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, blends skill, artistry, and Mexican heritage. Like a rodeo but with distinct flair, it transforms cattle farming techniques into breathtaking stunts. Participants will demonstrate daring feats such as leaping onto wild mares, bull roping, and bareback bronc riding, all while dressed in elaborate, traditional attire.
The championship will feature 35 elite charro and escaramuza teams from Mexico and the United States, including renowned names like Charros de RG2, Rancho Las Cuevas, and Rancheros de Tijuana. Spectators can look forward to nine thrilling challenges showcasing precision horsemanship, bull riding, and roping skills.
Adding to the spectacle are the escaramuzas, teams of 8 to 12 women dressed in ornate Adelita and Ranchera dresses. Riding sidesaddle, they perform intricate, synchronized horseback maneuvers that highlight both discipline and grace.
A standout event is the traditional Maleconeada parade on Friday, January 31, starting at 11:45 am. This colorful procession of horsemen along the Malecón begins at ZOO Bar and showcases the cultural splendor of the championship.
The event is family-friendly and offers affordable ticket prices ranging from 150 to 250 pesos, available at the Lienzo Charro box office during the championship. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness Mexico’s cherished sport and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Puerto Vallarta.
