Puerto Vallarta is preparing for a significant improvement to its public transportation system with the arrival of 68 new buses, aimed at strengthening service and responding to long-standing community concerns. The new units will join the UnibusPV fleet, the company operating public transportation in the city under a contract with the Jalisco state government.
Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González confirmed that the buses are scheduled to arrive next month, marking the next phase of a broader mobility upgrade. He noted that an initial group of buses was delivered toward the end of last year, and another 68 units are expected within the first quarter of 2026.
“Starting in March, this section will be operational. These additional buses will help meet demand while we continue planning for the future,” Munguía said. He added that medium-term plans include articulated electric buses with a capacity of up to 120 passengers, along with the installation and renovation of covered bus stops throughout the city.
Sustainability is a key focus of the project. The mayor emphasized that electric buses are both economical and environmentally responsible, aligning with the state government’s long-term mobility strategy for Puerto Vallarta as a major tourist destination. The new units are expected to reduce emissions and improve air quality, particularly along high-traffic corridors such as Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue.
Improved connectivity is also central to the initiative. The upgraded routes will link Ixtapa with downtown Puerto Vallarta, passing through important areas including Las Juntas, the Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta), the international airport, and Marina Vallarta. These connections are designed to make daily travel more efficient for residents while offering visitors easier access to key parts of the city.
With these changes underway, the city of Puerto Vallarta continues to move toward a cleaner, more reliable, and better-connected public transportation system that supports both local needs and sustainable growth.
