First COVID-19 Vaccines of the Year Arrive in Jalisco

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco on Monday received the first shipment of vaccines against COVID-19 of the year. The Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) reported that there are almost 400 thousand doses that will be used as reinforcements.

That shipment corresponds to delivery 52 to the entity, “of which 250,000 are from the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, which will be used as boosters for older adults and health personnel; and 148,590 doses are from Pfizer-BioNTech laboratories, which will be used for adolescents from 14 to 17 years old in general,” detailed the Secretary of Health of Jalisco, Fernando Petersen Aranguren.

“We are going to strengthen the vaccination strategy like never before, since this week we will be applying reinforcements in the 125 municipalities of the state, in addition to the fact that in several regions we will have other active days,” he added.

Here in Puerto Vallarta, Dr. Jaime Álvarez Zayas, director of the Eighth Health Region, reported that booster shots will be available to both public and private health personnel from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on January 5 at the La Lija Sports Unit in Colonia Lomas del Coapinole.

He said that approximately 1,600 people in the health sector who have already completed their vaccination scheme will be given the AstraZeneca booster, regardless of which biological was used for the first vaccination(s).

Álvarez Zayas added that more vaccination clinics are pending for next week, including (AstraZeneca) booster shots for adults aged 60 and over, second doses of AstraZeneca for adolescents who received their first vaccination in October, second dose of Pfizer for minors between 15 and 17 years old and, for the first time, Pfizer vaccines will be applied to minors between 14 and 17 years old who do not have any comorbidity.

The doctor asked citizens to be attentive to the dates, venues and times of these vaccination clinics and guaranteed that there will be enough doses for those who need to complete their vaccination schedules.

For his part, Fernando Petersen stressed that, in one year, Jalisco has received nine million 767 thousand 212 doses of vaccines, of which more than 90 percent have been applied.

He invited the population to stay informed through the official social media channels of the Jalisco State Government and the Jalisco Health Secretariat where all the details of the conference are permanently disclosed.

He invited the people of Jalisco in a video to go for the reinforcement: “It does not matter which vaccine you have applied in your initial scheme, with the [AstraZeneca] vaccination you protect yourself and protect everyone around you.”
