Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – During his Monday morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced that he will visit Puerto Vallarta and Nayarit this weekend to supervise several infrastructure projects that are being carried out in the Banderas Bay region.
However, he did not say if there will be any public events, nor did he specify if he will be in Puerto Vallarta on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – or if he will do his traditional mañanera (morning press conference) in the city.
While here, AMLO said that he will be touring the city and supervising the progress of the long-awaited Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta highway (short cut), specifically the Vallarta-Las Varas section. He will also tour the 76-kilometer-long stretch of road between Las Varas and Compostela and a project from Compostela to Tepic, along with other projects his government is working on.
The President will not be in Puerto Vallarta for more than a few hours, his agenda will focus mainly on Nayarit.
“Over the weekend we are going to Nayarit; we are going to see the dams and we are going to supervise all of the works… the highways that are being expanded,” said the president. Another work in Nayarit that the president will visit will be the Bicentennial channel.
“We are going to develop the north of Nayarit for more tourism, because everything in the south of Nayarit, which is next to Vallarta – Bahía de Banderas, Punta Mita, etc. – is well-developed, but to the north, even more development is required as there is great tourism potential,” he added.
López Obrador reported that in addition to strengthening the entity’s image, he also plans to provide better security conditions for both residents and tourists; however, he explained that he cannot yet reveal much about the security strategy until the groundwork is better laid out.
