Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Municipal Government of Puerto Vallarta is redoubling its efforts to keep the city streets and beaches clean and free of garbage, and its infrastructure in optimal conditions, in the face of the massive arrival of tourists during the two-week-long Easter vacation period.
José Asuncion Gil Calleja, director of Municipal Public Services, said that his staff will double their efforts to collect garbage and clean beaches for longer than usual.
While Puerto Vallarta usually collects between 490 and 510 tons of waste per day, the figure increases by approximately 30 percent during the holidays, so in these two weeks it is projected that up to 640 tons of garbage will be collected daily, a significantly higher amount.
Additionally, municipal personnel continue beach cleaning efforts at Playa de Oro, Camarones, Boca Negra, Malecón, Los Muertos, Holiday Inn, Flamingos, Conchas Chinas, Palmares, Garza Blanca, Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlán, Boca de Tomates, among others. And, to help keep our beaches free of waste, trash bags are being given to beach-goers so that they can place their garbage in them and deposit them in the garbage cans or collection points as they leave.
Likewise, by order of Mayor Luis Alberto Michel, all public service departments will be coordinating to report any failure in lights, light transformers, water and pipe leaks, and the cleanliness of public spaces, so that these issues can be addressed by the corresponding department.
