Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The temporary Covid-19 testing lab that had been set up at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport since January 2021 has been closed due to the drop in demand since the U.S. rescinded the order that every passenger be tested and proven negative before entering its territory on June 12, 2022.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) facilitated the installation of temporary laboratories in each of the twelve airports it operates in Mexico after the United States enacted an order titled “Requirement for Negative Pre-Departure COVID-19 Test Result or Documentation of Recovery from COVID-19 for All Airline or Other Aircraft Passengers Arriving in the United States from any Foreign Country” on January 26, 2021.
As of June 12, the order of the Control and Prevention Center (CDC) that had entered into force on January 26, 2021, which forced all passengers to undergo a Covid-19 detection test within 72 hours before boarding flights to the United States, was rescinded.
Once this new official order was announced, the number of tests carried out at airports was reduced in such a way that the institution that provided said service at air terminals, Polanco Medical Laboratory, decided to disable the operation of temporary Covid-19 detection test modules at the Guadalajara, Tijuana, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Guanajuato, Hermosillo, Mexicali, Morelia, La Paz, Aguascalientes, Los Mochis and Manzanillo airports.
The GAP reported that from the time that these temporary testing labs opened in its 12 Mexican airports until the end of May, a total of 915,653 tests were carried out, of which 29,204 were PCR and 886,449 were antigens.
Now, the GAP suggests that passengers check with their airline the requirements requested by the country to which they wish to travel, and follow the bio-security measures that are required in the air terminals.
