Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The walkways or streets leading to the upper part of the downtown area are undergoing a transformation in order to enhance the tourist attractions in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. This aligns with the strategy set forth by Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez to continue positioning the city as one of national and international visitors’ favorite beach destinations.
During the second session of the Citizen Council of the Historic Center of Puerto Vallarta, the progress of the Rehabilitation and Socioeconomic Reactivation Program for the corners or walkways in the east-west transversal streets at the foot of the hill was revealed.
The Council President, Engineer José de Jesús Palacios Bernal, emphasized, “We have focused on the rehabilitation of the so-called corners, which are the spaces where the transversal streets of the downtown area end at the foot of the hill. Our intention is to make them more attractive so that they will be seen and visited by tourists who are walking along the Malecón.”
He added that for the benefit of Puerto Vallarta’s historic center, “which is the heart that gave name and origin to our tourist destination, citizens and authorities must join forces. In this program, we, as citizens, provide the materials, and the municipal authority provides the labor. These corners are currently undergoing improvements, and we hope they will be ready for reopening soon.”
Rosa Jazmín Rosas Flores, from the Department of Tourism and Economic Development, provided details on the work carried out over several months on Iturbide, Mina, and Galeana, with the support of personnel from the Departments of Public Services and Property Maintenance. Flower beds, curbstones, stair tiles and railings and more were repaired, the walls were repainted and the lighting replaced.
There are also plans to undertake work on Pípila, Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, Abasolo, and Zaragoza, including the creation of rest area with terraces (some of which can serve as venues for cultural events), improving the appearance of walls, and even creating a mural. Projects will also be developed for Corona and Leona Vicario. After the session, the attendees took a tour of some of the mentioned walkways.
Felipe de Jesús Rocha Reyes, the City Secretary and deputy mayor in the Council, acknowledged the efforts and dedication of its members “to improve the heart, the face, and the image of Puerto Vallarta. Your participation is important in taking care of the historic center and strengthening tourism. Currently, we are in first place in tourism, but the challenge lies in maintaining it, which we will achieve through the collective ideas that we implement through our work since the beginning of this administration. Our mayor has made a significant commitment to tourism, and you have seen all the events that have been held that have helped Puerto Vallarta obtain and maintain its position”.
During the session, Christian Salvador Preciado Cázares, the current Director of Tourism and Economic Development, was appointed as the Technical Secretary of the Advisory Committee of the Council.
