Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a significant milestone for animal welfare in Vallarta, three dedicated animal lovers have transformed their shared passion into a tangible reality. Paws and Claws Puerto Vallarta, a newly established 501(c)(3) animal welfare charity, is set to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless dogs and cats in the region.
The enthusiastic trio behind this initiative – Ron Harner, Juan Tamayo, and Glenda Bland – have combined their time, dedication, and personal contributions to bring about meaningful changes in the lives of these animals.
Individually, each Board member has played a vital role in supporting various animal-related initiatives. From aiding Angelicat to assisting rescuers with essential veterinary treatments and contributing to Cuale Clinic, their individual contributions have already made a difference. However, the establishment of Paws and Claws PV marks a strategic step forward in coordinating their efforts and channeling resources where they are needed most.
With the formation of Paws and Claws PV, these individuals are poised to amplify their efforts through collaboration. The Board members, alongside their esteemed Advisory Committee – Angela Kelleher, Lydia Damato, and Monica Diaz, all known for their unwavering commitment to animal welfare – aim to address the multifaceted challenges facing animals in the community.
“The power of collaboration cannot be understated when it comes to promoting animal welfare. We are not just driven by ethics but by a shared passion deeply rooted in our values,” emphasized the Board and Advisory Committee.
In a productive and insightful meeting, the Paws and Claws Puerto Vallarta Advisory Committee laid out plans to address the pressing needs within animal rescue circles. With an abundance of requirements in the animal welfare sector, careful deliberation led to the identification of immediate focus areas.
As part of their immediate plans, the committee identified critical areas for action. Recognizing the pressing need for a support system for rescuers, they are piloting a program in partnership with local veterinarians. This program will provide initial care and treatment for rescued animals and litters, ensuring their wellbeing before they are transitioned to shelters or adoption centers.
Long-term strategies also encompass establishing a “Paws and Claws Food Bank” to provide sustenance for street animals and shelter residents alike. Education and support for spaying and neutering efforts are also on the agenda to curb overpopulation.
