Ruta Mushi’s January Exhibit Unveils Puerto Vallarta’s Origins

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Ever wondered how a sleepy fishing village evolved into the buzzing resort town we know today? Step aboard Ruta Mushi, a vibrant mobile museum traversing Puerto Vallarta’s streets, and prepare to be transported back in time.

This month’s captivating exhibit, “Puerto Vallarta the Beginning,” delves into the fascinating tale of the city’s transformation, from a modest fishing village to a cosmopolitan hub.

Imagine a 19th-century Mexico. Lush mountains cradle silver mines, yet a crucial ingredient – salt – remains elusive. Enter Guadalupe Sanchez, an enterprising boatman who, in 1851, establishes a trading post on the Cuale River. His vision? To bridge the gap, supplying salt to the mines and facilitating the export of minerals. This humble outpost, initially named “Las Peñas de Santa María de Guadalupe,” would eventually blossom into the beloved Puerto Vallarta.

Ruta Mushi’s vibrant bus, adorned with captivating murals, brings history to life. Inside, captivating photographs, objects, and documents tell the story of a town’s metamorphosis. Witness the transformation from thatched-roof dwellings to grand haciendas, and learn how the arrival of Hollywood in the 1960s propelled Puerto Vallarta onto the global stage.

Catch Ruta Mushi on its city tour, weaving through different neighborhoods from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 am to 9 pm. The schedule for January includes stops at Biblioteca Los Mangos on Tuesdays, La Lija on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Parque Hidalgo on Thursdays and Fridays, and Parque Lázaro Cárdenas on Sundays. Before you head out, be sure to check their website or Facebook page for any changes to the schedule.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a curious visitor, Ruta Mushi’s journey through time promises an unforgettable experience. So, hop aboard, immerse yourself in Puerto Vallarta’s captivating past, and discover the beating heart of this vibrant Mexican gem.
