Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.
SEPTEMBER IS VIRTUAL ADOPTION MONTH
September is the month we celebrate our Virtual Adoption cats! These are usually older cats that have little hope of finding a Forever Home. Many are very people-friendly and would make great companions. Others are feral or have a disability such as one eye or deafness.
YOU can “Virtually Adopt” one of these felines for yourself, or as a gift to a feline-loving friend, for only $120 USD a year and help us continue to give these adult cats a safe home and medical care for life. You can learn how to virtually adopt and also meet all the candidates by visiting our website or writing us at adopt(at)purrproject.com.
SHELTER UPDATE
August was another blazing hot & humid month for our volunteers, staff and cats! Thankfully we had some rain but no big storms to cause damage to the shelter. We only had 15 kittens (and one puppy!) abandoned at the shelter but we also only had 2 adoptions…one at Petco and one by a volunteer. So we now have around 90 kittens that still need a Forever Home.
We are still dealing with a very full shelter! Your donations are providing all the food, medicines, cleaning supplies and salaries needed to keep the shelter running. Every little bit helps and you can go to our website to see the different ways to donate.
THE PURR 2025 CALENDAR
Our 2025 PuRR Calendar is here! They make such a great gift for your cat-loving friends and family as well as yourself. You will be able to get yours at our Saturday booth at Daiquiri Dick’s starting in November. If you are in the USA or Canada, we’re taking orders and will be mailing them. Contact Bama at adopt(at)purrproject.com with your order and mailing address. They are $25 each including postage. You can pay by sending a check to our Delaware address or by the PayPal button on our website. All information is at purrproject.com.
ADOPTION UPDATE: MAMA CARMEN
We recently heard from Rita & Greg Tomlin who adopted Carmen on a visit to the shelter:
“Yesterday was the 5-month anniversary of adopting Carmen. Everything is wonderful! About 2 weeks ago, she decided to completely trust and accept us. All of a sudden, she is sleeping with us instead of on the floor, she accepts pets down her back instead of just on her head, and she comes to us asking for affection. I’m over the moon! She’s learned five tricks (come, sit, sit up, jump a stick, and turn around). Thank you again for all you do to find homes for these amazing cats.” Carman is one smart kitty! We love to hear these stories from people who have adopted from us!
SHELTER DOGS
Over the years we’ve had several dogs abandoned at the shelter. Some we found homes for and some stayed we us. The latest is “Pinto” who is about 3 months old and a cutie! As soon as he is neutered and vaccinated, we’ll take him to Petco where he’ll hopefully find a Forever Home. Sadly, our elderly Rottweiler “Rocky” passed over the Rainbow Bridge in August but we still have Lalo, Ballerina and Arbuela. Like the cats, they look forward to visitors and treats!
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
Last month we received donations from Marilyn Marshman, from one of our volunteers and also another generous donation from Cherri Gillmore.
As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: Gary Phillips, Terri & Gray Levy, The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Sharon & Ken Rose, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Jerry Petrizzo, Karen & Walt Trolson, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, Robert Weed, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North and Larry Sherwood.
