Many Ways to Celebrate Day of the Dead in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta transforms into an extraordinary celebration for Día de Muertos, a cherished Mexican tradition recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. From late October through early November, this scenic coastal town comes alive with music, color, and spirituality, attracting visitors from around the world to experience its unique blend of tradition and festivity.

The Festival Recuérdame’s debut promises free cultural events across the Malecón, Downtown Puerto Vallarta, and the Romantic Zone. This year’s festival centerpiece will again be the world’s tallest Calavera Catrina, standing over 90 feet tall, accompanied by a skeleton mascot paying tribute to beloved pets that have passed. Events include live music at Los Arcos del Malecon, guided cemetery tours, a Pan de Muerto tasting at the Main Square, and an impressive Altar of the Dead at City Hall. On November 2, a lively Day of the Dead parade will make its way through Colonia 5 de Diciembre and El Centro, ending at Los Arcos.

This immersive experience by Vallarta Adventures begins with a stunning sunset cruise before guests are whisked to Las Caletas beach. Once there, attendees are surrounded by altars and decorations honoring those who have passed. Under the glow of moonlight, the ALMA show brings Mexican folklore to life, blending captivating storytelling with a setting specially transformed for Día de Muertos.

Held on Cuale Island, this family-friendly festival features traditional ofrendas, a food area, and live music from local favorites like Xochiquetzal, Pleasant Uprising, Steven Retchless, Gloria Fiona as Adele, Effie Pasero & Alison Lo, Sargento and more. Visitors can also participate in a Altar of the Dead, where they can add photos of loved ones, both humans and pets, to the ofrenda that will be on display on the island. Proceeds will benefit local non-profits Vallarta Garden Club and Vallarta Cares.
