Puerto Vallarta Launches Campaign to Remove Abandoned Cars

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Abandoned vehicles scattered across Puerto Vallarta’s neighborhoods have become a growing concern, tarnishing the city’s appearance and creating safety risks. These junk cars, often left on public roads or in vacant lots, accumulate trash, overgrown weeds, and decay, leading to frustration among residents.

Beyond aesthetics, these vehicles contribute to feelings of insecurity as they may serve as shelters for homeless individuals or even be used for illegal activities. To address this, Puerto Vallarta’s municipal government has initiated a campaign to remove abandoned cars and restore order to public spaces.

Launched in January 2025, the program targets private vehicle owners as well as body shops, mechanics, tire shops, and scrapyards. The aim is to improve mobility, ensure cleaner streets, and enhance community safety. Authorities warn that failure to comply may result in penalties, encouraging owners to regularize their vehicle’s status promptly.

Abandoned vehicles not only obstruct traffic but also pose health risks and degrade the city’s urban environment. To streamline the removal process, residents are encouraged to report such vehicles by calling 911, emailing transit.municipal(at)puertovallarta.gob.mx, or visiting the Municipal Transit Office, located on the 4th floor of the UMA at Av. Mezquital 604, Colonia Portales. Reports should include the vehicle’s exact location and a description to expedite action.

This initiative underscores the municipal government’s commitment to urban order and the safety of pedestrians and motorists, as outlined in the Municipal Road and Traffic Regulations. By addressing the issue of abandoned cars, Puerto Vallarta is taking a significant step toward creating cleaner, safer, and more welcoming neighborhoods.
