Puerto Vallarta is taking a major step toward improving its drinking water supply with a $57.4 million peso investment in key infrastructure projects. Mayor Luis Munguía and SEAPAL Vallarta Director Carlos Ruiz announced the initiative as part of the 2025 Productive Investment Program, aimed at increasing water production by 220 liters per second during this administration.
Once completed, the upgrades will bring SEAPAL Vallarta’s total installed capacity to nearly 1,500 liters per second – a move that will significantly strengthen the city’s ability to meet growing water demands. Mayor Munguía highlighted the importance of these projects in ensuring a stable and reliable water supply for all residents, calling it a major milestone in improving quality of life throughout the city.
“These are short-term actions with lasting results,” said Munguía. “They will be followed by even more projects that deliver medium- and long-term benefits, so our communities can count on a dependable water system well into the future.”
The projects include:
- Drilling three new vertical galleries along the Mascota River.
- Installing equipment, completing civil works, and connecting these galleries to the existing radial well.
- Re-drilling wells 1, 19, and 38 to greater depths for improved water access.
- Constructing a new control booth at well 19.
- Interconnecting water lines from Verde Vallarta to Las Juntas.
- Rehabilitating drinking water lines on Avenida Federación, between 10 de Mayo and Ribera del Río Pitillal.
Carlos Ruiz noted that this investment comes directly from SEAPAL’s own resources for the project, which will be beneficial in regulating water pressure, especially during the peak usage periods of July and August, and addressing the city’s growth.
Carlos Manzano, Director of Studies and Projects, shared that, in addition to this package of works, efforts are underway to secure more funding through the federal PROAGUA program. These resources would support future projects aimed at further modernizing and strengthening Puerto Vallarta’s water infrastructure.
With these improvements, the city is laying the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable water system that supports both current needs and future growth.
