City Council Names 5 Winners for 2026 Premio Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – The Puerto Vallarta City Council has finalized its selection for the 2026 Premio Vallarta awards, identifying five exceptional recipients who will be honored during the city’s upcoming anniversary celebrations. Following a thorough evaluation process by the Advisory Council, these finalists were chosen from a pool of eight nominations submitted by various community sectors.

Secretary General José Juan Velázquez Hernández announced that while nine honors were originally available, only five categories featured candidates who successfully met all the established requirements. This focused selection ensures that each award remains a prestigious mark of excellence for those who have demonstrated significant dedication to the municipality.

This year’s ceremony will highlight contributions across a diverse range of civic interests by celebrating five distinguished recipients. Isela Mariscal Hernández will receive the Teresa Barba Palomera award for her work as a cultural promoter, while Ana María Martínez Delgado will be honored with the Francisca Rodríguez award for her dedication to public education.

The Nakawe Sustainable Development, Culture and Wildlife Conservation Civil Association is set to receive the Guadalupe Sánchez Torres award for its commitment to the environment. Artistic achievements will be celebrated through María Matilde “Maty” Covarrubias Sánchez, recipient of the Manuel Lepe Macedo award, and María del Carmen Anaya Corona will be recognized with the Ignacio Luis Vallarta Ogazón award for an exemplary career of service to the municipality.

Four categories – including those for social assistance, tourism promotion, athletics, and economic development – will not be awarded this year as they did not receive qualifying proposals. This careful vetting process underscores the City Council’s commitment to maintaining high standards for municipal recognition.

The formal presentation of these awards is scheduled for May 31 during a solemn session of the City Council. The event coincides with the 108th anniversary of Puerto Vallarta as a municipality and its 58th year as an incorporated city. This dual celebration provides a meaningful backdrop for honoring the individuals whose work continues to strengthen the local community.
