Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – A breath of fresh air swept through the Plaza de Armas recently as the Árboles de Plaza en Plaza (Trees from Plaza to Plaza) program officially launched, transforming the city square into a beautiful gathering space filled with the promise of a greener tomorrow.
The initiative, championed by the Luis Munguía administration and its Environmental Sustainability Directorate, saw an incredible outpouring of community support, with 45 trees finding new guardians.
The air in Plaza de Armas was filled with the delightful scents of fresh earth and verdant leaves, creating an inviting atmosphere that inspired many citizens to adopt a tree. Families, individuals, and local nature lovers gathered around stands filled with guava, lemon, lychee, cinnamon, star fruit, and other trees. The scent of soil and foliage filled the air, inviting citizens to take part in this meaningful environmental effort.
“The primary aim of this program is to champion reforestation, encourage tree planting, and foster environmental stewardship throughout our city,” explained Tahamara Esquivel, who leads the Environmental Sustainability Directorate. “We want to ignite citizen participation and heighten environmental awareness.”
To ensure the success of each adoption, every tree came with a detailed technical sheet. This valuable resource provides adopters with essential information about their tree’s species, common name, uses, and recommendations for planting, management, and ongoing care. Adopters not only received this valuable information – they also signed a commitment to care for their tree.
For those who weren’t able to participate in this initial event at Plaza de Armas, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved. The Árboles de Plaza en Plaza program is set to expand its reach, heading soon to communities like Las Palmas, Boca de Tomates, Mojoneras, and Mismaloya.
This successful launch marks a significant step forward in making our city a more environmentally conscious and beautiful place for everyone.
