Puerto Vallarta Launches Environmental Route to Boost Recycling

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta has taken a step toward sustainability with the launch of the Environmental Route, a new recycling program aimed at promoting proper waste separation and reducing the volume of garbage in the city. Operating Monday through Saturday, the program collects glass, aluminum, cardboard, and plastic from homes across local neighborhoods.

Thanks to a joint effort between Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration and Red Ambiental, the initiative will serve more than 18,000 households each week. Two electric trucks will cover up to 16 neighborhoods, offering residents a convenient way to participate in the city’s commitment to environmental care.

The neighborhoods served by the Environmental Route are split into two groups:

Route 1

  • Monday: Ixtapa
  • Tuesday: Versalles
  • Wednesday: Las Juntas
  • Thursday: Fluvial Vallarta
  • Friday: La Aurora
  • Saturday: Centro Pitillal

Route 2

  • Monday: UDG
  • Tuesday: Centro Vallarta
  • Wednesday: Mojoneras
  • Thursday: December 5
  • Friday: Vallarta 500
  • Saturday: Hotel Zone

Javier Navarro, Director of Efficient Services, highlighted the importance of public awareness, stating that comprehensive awareness campaigns will be rolled out to inform citizens about the new collection schedules and procedures. Complementing this, the “Environmental Heroes” program is already active in local schools, instilling the practice of waste separation in children from a young age.

Horacio Guerra, CEO of Red Ambiental, praised the initiative as a strong move toward a greener future. Terrance Vincent O’Halloran Lepe, Manager of Sustainability and Territory, added that the program reflects Mayor Munguía’s commitment to protecting the city and its coastline from the long-term impact of pollution.

With this initiative, Puerto Vallarta sets a positive example in environmental responsibility, paving the way for cleaner streets, engaged citizens, and a healthier future.
