Puerto Vallarta–Islas Marías Ferry Launches January 16

Puerto Vallarta, México – The ferry service linking Puerto Vallarta with the Islas Marías is set to begin operations on January 16, expanding maritime access from this Pacific port to one of Mexico’s most distinctive natural destinations.

The start date was confirmed by Miguel Ángel Maya Álvarez, Marketing Manager of the Puerto Vallarta National Port System Administration (Asipona), during the inauguration of the Vallarta–Yelapa ferry. The event brought together local authorities and representatives from the maritime and tourism sectors.

According to Maya Álvarez, the vessel assigned to the Islas Marías route will make its first official voyage on January 16 and will then operate every 15 days from Puerto Vallarta. The regular schedule is expected to strengthen visitor access to the islands while supporting sustainable tourism efforts.

Plans are also underway for a dedicated terminal to serve these ferries. The facility will feature a waiting area, restrooms, and additional services designed to improve passenger comfort and overall travel experience.

The journey itself is designed as a comprehensive weekend getaway. Travelers can book a three-day, two-night package that begins with a Friday morning departure at 8:00 a.m. The high-speed ferry, which accommodates up to 199 passengers, completes the crossing to María Madre in approximately five hours. Guests then enjoy a weekend of exploration before returning to the Puerto Vallarta docks on Sunday evening.

The packages are structured to provide a worry-free vacation, with prices starting at $7,340 MXN per person. This rate covers round-trip transportation, guided sightseeing tours around the island, and daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. By including these essentials, the service allows visitors to focus entirely on the unique landscapes and history of the region.

Lodging is priced separately, starting at $3,400 MXN, with options ranging from single rooms to family homes accommodating up to eight guests. Some accommodations offer private pools, grills, palapas, sports courts, and golf carts for convenient island transportation.

This new service marks a significant milestone in regional tourism, making the pristine beauty of the Marias Islands more accessible than ever before. Interested travelers can find further details, pricing and booking information at the official website, visitaislasmarias.com.
