Puerto Vallarta, México – SEAPAL Vallarta successfully completed its first large-scale drainage operation of 2026 this week, focusing on cleaning the main pipelines in Puerto Vallarta’s northern zone. The project, which took place overnight between Thursday, February 19, and the early morning of Friday, February 20, is part of a broader initiative to maintain the quality of the city’s drinking water.
The primary goal of the operation was to remove natural accumulations of iron and manganese from the distribution lines. While these minerals do not pose a health risk to the public, they are known to cause turbidity, or cloudiness, in the water supply. By flushing these deposits out of the system, the utility provider aims to ensure that the water reaching local homes remains clear and consistent.
Service restoration began immediately following the completion of the work. By Friday afternoon, 85% of the affected neighborhoods had their potable water service restored, with the remaining areas returning to normal throughout Friday night. This gradual restoration process ensures that the system stabilized as pressure returned to the distribution network.
This maintenance marks a significant shift in the city’s infrastructure management. While a similar flush was conducted last December, no operations of this scale had been performed since 2020. Under the current administration led by Carlos Ruiz, SEAPAL has resumed these major cleaning efforts as a standard part of their maintenance schedule.
Looking ahead, the utility reported that these drainage actions will continue periodically at strategic points throughout the system. These scheduled improvements are designed to strengthen the overall reliability of the water service for families across Puerto Vallarta.
