Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico – Sailors from across Mexico and around the world gathered on the waters of Banderas Bay for the 20th edition of the WesMex International Small Boat Regatta, one of the region’s premier youth sailing events.

Hosted by the Vallarta Yacht Club, WesMex continues a proud tradition of promoting youth sailing and international competition while showcasing the world-class sailing conditions of Banderas Bay. This year’s regatta, which took place March 4-9, featured competition in several classes including Optimist, ILCA (Laser), Board Sailors, and for the first time, the exciting J/70 fleet, expanding the event’s reach across multiple generations of sailors.

The regatta was organized in partnership with Sabino Productions as part of Nayarit Sailing Week, an initiative designed to position the Riviera Nayarit as a premier international sailing destination.

WesMex also received strong support from Nayarit Tourism and the Government of the State of Nayarit, whose commitment to developing sailing and marine tourism continues to help grow the sport and attract international competitors to the region.

“WesMex has become a cornerstone event for youth sailing in Mexico,” said organizers from the Vallarta Yacht Club. “For twenty years it has brought together talented young sailors, dedicated coaches, and supportive families who share a love of the sea and the spirit of friendly international competition.”

The regatta is made possible through the collaboration of local partners and sponsors including Sabino, Paradise Village, Novamar, Zaragoza Marine, Marina Towers, and the Vallarta Sailing Foundation, whose support helps create opportunities for young sailors to develop their skills and pursue competitive sailing.

Beyond the racing, WesMex celebrates the vibrant sailing community of Banderas Bay and highlights the region as a premier destination for international sailing events.

As WesMex marks its 20th anniversary, the Vallarta Yacht Club looks forward to continuing its mission of inspiring the next generation of sailors while strengthening Mexico’s presence in the global sailing community.
