Puerto Vallarta is set to strengthen its reputation as a premier destination for mind sports this month as it hosts the upcoming 4th Annual Chess Tournament. Formally promoted by Federal Deputy Bruno Blancas, this highly anticipated event invites local and regional players to showcase their strategic talents in a spirit of friendly competition.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the centrally located CECATI 63 facilities on Zaragoza Street in downtown Puerto Vallarta, providing an ideal and easily accessible venue for all participants.
Designed to welcome a diverse field of competitors, the tournament features three mixed-gender categories: Under 12, Under 17, and an Open division for seasoned players. To reward the dedication and skill of the participants, the organizing committee has established a total prize purse of 30,000 pesos, which will be distributed among the top finishers in each division. Registration fees are structured to be accessible, costing 300 pesos for the children’s and youth categories, and 450 pesos for the Open category.
Securing a spot in this premier event requires a straightforward registration process. Interested players must fill out the official form and submit their entry fee via a deposit or bank transfer to BBVA account 012512015491556469, registered under the name of Frania Santillan. To ensure proper tracking, participants should include the player’s name and competitive category in the payment details, and then send the digital receipt to the dedicated customer service lines at either 322-168-3697 or 322-244-7092.
On the day of the tournament, the venue will open its doors at 8:00 am to welcome players and supporters. Competitors must arrive in time for the mandatory roll call, which will take place between 8:30 am and 9:30 am, as the matches are scheduled to begin promptly at 9:45 am.
Because space at the venue is limited, early registration is highly encouraged. Additionally, participants are reminded to bring their own tournament-ready gear – including a board, pieces, and a chess clock – along with an official identification to ensure a smooth and professional competitive experience.
Beyond the competition itself, the event offers an opportunity to celebrate the intellectual challenge and camaraderie that make chess one of the world’s most enduring games. With players ranging from promising young competitors to seasoned strategists, the 4th Annual Chess Tournament promises an engaging day of concentration, skill, and friendly rivalry.
