Puerto Vallarta Interim Mayor Alvarado

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – During last Friday’s plenary session of the Puerto Vallarta City Council, 6 members of the council, including the mayor, stepped down from their posts in order to pursue other positions in the upcoming elections, which are scheduled to be held in Mexico in July 2021.

Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña is stepping down from his position as municipal president to pursue his political aspiration of sitting on the Chamber of Deputies for the 65th Congress.

Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado will act as interim municipal president, and councilman Eduardo Manuel Martínez Martínez will step into Quintero Alvardo’s previous position of municipal trustee.

The newly appointed interim mayor was among the city council members who thanked Arturo Dávalos for the continuity that he demonstrated as the head of the City Council over the last 5 years and for the works accomplished that marked an important transformation for the municipality.

The interim mayor pointed out that as public servants, the city council’s vocation should be one of service, “and our task is to change the quality of life of those who live here.”

Jorge Quintero Alvarado congratulated outgoing mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña for being a great humanist leader, straightforward and, above all, “because he has made history in Puerto Vallarta.”

He said that the most important thing now is to continue working in unity and always looking out for the well-being of Vallarta families. “Our greatest challenge will be the economic reactivation, in which all sectors must join. We will carry on as a government that continues to provide quality services, developing public works with high social impact, taking care of the environment, the development of our communities and supporting those who need it most,” he said.

He added that the conditions will be created to continue generating confidence for investors and security for Vallartans and visitors. He also said that they will be respectful of the next electoral process “because we are the most interested in living a process where the most important thing is the voice of the citizens.”

He noted that in assuming this responsibility, “I do so with great conviction to serve Puerto Vallarta and with great honor; I know it is a lot of work, but I accept it and will perform it in the best way possible. Our origin is the feeling of the citizens, not politics, and all of us who make up this administration have assumed this for five years. Our flag will continue to be responsible work, honesty and above all, love for Puerto Vallarta.”
