Tropicasa Vallarta Semana Santa Tips

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Easter holidays, called “Semana Santa” in Spanish, come early this spring, with Easter Sunday landing on April 4, 2021. Generally, this is a very popular time for visitors in Puerto Vallarta with hotel occupancy even higher than during the Christmas season.

And while travel will be a little different this year, with hotel occupancies limited to 66% over Semana Santa along with some other restrictions to help protect the health and wellness of our community, we can still anticipate that Puerto Vallarta will be an attractive destination for guests from other parts of Mexico and the USA.

For residents living in Puerto Vallarta, we have a few helpful tips and reminders.

Schools will not be hosting in person or virtual classes from March 29th to April 13th.

Banks will be closed April 1st to the 4th, and one should anticipate long lines on Wednesday, March 31st and Monday, April 5th.

Many small businesses will close for vacations from April 1st to 5th, if not longer.

Costco, grocery stores, and convenience stores get very busy during the two weeks of Semana Santa, so it’s a good idea to avoid the crowds by stocking up your fridge and pantry in advance.

ATM machines regularly run out of cash during Easter Holidays, so be prepared with a little money on hand and credit cards.

Traffic will be heavier than usual, and parking will be more congested. Walking, taxis and ride-share are usually the quickest ways to get around but be prepared for longer waits for ride-share pick-ups and for surge pricing during the busiest periods.

It will be a quieter Semana Santa this year but still active with tourists in our city, helping to bolster our economy after a challenging year. We urge all our residents and guests to continue to use safer practices with masks and social distancing during this vacation period to help keep Puerto Vallarta healthy, and we wish you all a Happy Easter.
