Mexico City – Aeroméxico has soared to a new height, earning the prestigious title of the world’s most punctual airline for September 2025. According to the aviation data firm Cirium, the Mexican carrier achieved an outstanding On Time Performance (OTP) rate of 91.80%, moving up from second place the previous month.
This recognition reflects not just fast arrivals, but superior operational reliability. Cirium’s OTP score is the gold standard for measuring performance, considering a flight “on time” only if it arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of its schedule. Crucially, the ranking includes cancellations, classifying them as “not on time,” which means the score rewards airlines that complete their scheduled flights efficiently. Aeroméxico operated 14,366 flights in September, completing 99.95% of its scheduled flights without cancellations.
Aeroméxico’s September performance placed it ahead of several major international carriers. Brazil’s Azul Airlines secured second place globally with an OTP of 89.45%, followed by Delta Air Lines at 87.50%. Rounding out the top five were Saudia (87.16%) and Qatar Airways (86.91%).
Within Latin America, Aeroméxico also led the region’s top airlines. While the Mexican carrier was the global leader, Copa Airlines (90.65%) and Gol (90.35%) showed strong performance to complete the regional top three. This success in Latin America is particularly notable given a challenging global trend, where overall cancellations were up 11% in September; by contrast, airlines in the Latin American region collectively cut cancellations by 11%.
The positive trend extended to Mexico’s capital city. The Mexico City International Airport (AICM) experienced a dramatic rise in its global ranking, climbing to second place among large airports worldwide for punctuality. The airport posted a strong OTP of 89.74%, trailing only the Honolulu International Airport (90.32%). This represents a major improvement for AICM, which had ranked 14th – its lowest position of the year – in August.
Cirium’s comprehensive data serves as a vital global benchmark, providing carriers and airport authorities with the insights needed to monitor their operations, pinpoint important trends, and continuously improve efficiency in scheduling across both major and regional markets.
