Amado Nervo Bridge Construction to Commence June 30th

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Construction on the long-awaited Amado Nervo Bridge, spanning the Ameca River, is set to begin on Monday, June 30. This announcement comes from Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), clarifying previous reports regarding the project’s start date.

On June 4th, during President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference, Secretary Esteva Medina indicated that construction would commence on June 25th. However, when that date arrived, the SICT head explained that the bidding process for the project was still underway, necessitating a delay until the end of June.

The Amado Nervo Bridge, previously known as the Federación Bridge, is a critical piece of road infrastructure that has been sought after for over a decade. Its construction is expected to improve vehicular flow between Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, and Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit.

These two municipalities form the Bay Area Metropolitan Zone, home to nearly half a million residents. A substantial portion of this population regularly crosses the Ameca River, which serves as the natural border between the two states, for work, commerce, and other daily activities.

Secretary Esteva Medina emphasized the urgency of the project, stating that the current bridge is “about to fail.” He had previously included the Amado Nervo Bridge in a package of 10 road infrastructure projects slated for this year, part of a larger federal initiative comprising 21 projects. “We are close to starting all of these; they are in the bidding process, and they all begin practically in June… we will be in Nayarit, Amado Nervo,” the secretary stated earlier this month when outlining the infrastructure plans.

The upcoming construction aims to alleviate the long-standing traffic congestion and enhance connectivity for residents of the bustling metropolitan area.
