Amazon, Mercado Libre & Geodis to Invest MXB in Mexico State

The State of Mexico is set to strengthen its position as a logistics powerhouse with a record investment of more than MX$21 billion (US$1.2 billion) from Amazon, Mercado Libre, and Geodis. The projects, announced last week by state officials, will expand infrastructure, open new centers, and create thousands of jobs in Lerma, Tultepec, and Tultitlán.

According to State Minister of Economic Development, Laura González, the State of Mexico already leads the country with 389 distribution centers, accounting for 13% of the national total. The logistics sector is a powerhouse for the state’s economy, contributing 7.5% of its GDP and attracting more than US$730 million in foreign investment and MX$36 billion in domestic capital during the current administration.

Amazon: Growth and Humanitarian Response
Amazon Mexico is expanding its network with a new logistics center in Lerma, set to open this year and generate hundreds of jobs. The company also announced Latin America’s first disaster response hub in the state, stocked with 25,000 essential goods for rapid deployment during emergencies. Amazon’s existing footprint includes five shipping centers, a sorting facility, and two delivery stations in the state, while supporting more than 4,000 small businesses, helping many export their products globally.

Mercado Libre: Logistics Leader
Mercado Libre, already a major employer in the region, is set to expand its workforce dramatically. Agustín Pablo Acosta, Mercado Libre’s Executive Vice President of Global Logistics, noted the company currently operates 15 logistics facilities in the state, dispatching more than 427,000 packages daily. By the end of 2025, the company plans to add over 9,000 jobs – 5,000 direct and 4,000 indirect – bringing its total workforce to 17,500 people. This expansion includes building Latin America’s largest cross-dock logistics center in Tultitlán and Tultepec.

Geodis Strengthens Its Presence
French logistics firm Geodis is also growing its footprint in the State of Mexico. The company is opening a new facility in Tultepec, which will create 146 new jobs, adding to its existing 2,500 employees. Víctor Benavides, Vice President of Sales in Mexico, reaffirmed Geodis’s commitment to the country as a strategic base for its operations.

Government’s Commitment to Growth
Horacio Duarte, Secretary General of the State of Mexico, said that private investment has fueled employment, social mobility, and poverty reduction. More than 130,000 jobs have been created during the current administration, helping 1.9 million residents improve their quality of life.

With over 660,000 people employed in logistics and nearly 3,000 companies in the sector, the State of Mexico now ranks third nationwide in logistics activity. Duarte reaffirmed the government’s vision: “Each new project means decent jobs, training, social mobility, and well-being for families. Our commitment is to consolidate the state as a model of sustainable, inclusive, and human development.”
