SHELTER UPDATE

We’ve been doing some Spring cleaning and necessary painting. Dra. Eva was thrilled with the top-to-bottom cleaning and repainting of the shelter clinic! So far this year, we have taken in 43 cats and kittens and had a great total of 35 adoptions! Most of those were at PetCo but also from shelter visitors or through our volunteers. Unfortunately, there are still 71 kittens in the shelter nurseries who would love to find that Forever Home. We will continue to bring adoptable kitties to the PetCo Adoption Center every weekend if you want to come meet your new furry friend.

LUCKY PENNY

In February we talked about some of our special needs kitties that need special homes. Well Lucky Penny found hers with fosters Catherine Goglia and Jim Shoemaker! Catherine writes: “Penny really is a miracle who teaches me something every day. She is fearless and there is nothing that stops her from trying something new. She just bounces back and tries a different way if it doesn’t work the first time. One of our other fosters, Alba, has learned that when she plays with Penny if she makes noise Penny will find her. They love playing in the crinkle tunnel and when Penny cannot find Alba then Alba will head back to the tunnel and make noise for Penny to follow. The adaptability, wisdom and empathy these kittens display with Penny is something I cannot help but wish we as humans displayed more of in our daily lives.”

VIRTUAL ADOPTION

We’ve said it before… Virtual Adoption is a purr-fect way to “adopt” a cat if your husband has allergies, you don’t want to clean a litter box, your condo doesn’t allow pets or you already have a dozen cats at home! It also makes a great gift for a cat-loving friend or family member! It’s only a $120 donation and can be done right on our website.

OUR VET – DRA. EVA

We are always in awe of Dra. Eva Torres! She not only works full time at Sabueso’s Clinic, she visits the shelter twice a week and still finds time to volunteer her services when she is called by local authorities to help an animal in distress. Recently she was the vet called to help find a cause for three baby whale deaths in the Bay of Banderas. She was also a featured presenter on the first congress on crocodiles in Mexico. And kids LOVE when she brings an iguana or her 10-year old pet python, Chabola, to visit them in the classroom!

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

We all send a very BIG thanks to Sasha Brannum and her new kitty Proseco for their generous donation! Same to Rita and Greg Tomlin who adopted Mama Carmen and Duncan! Plus we received donations from Beverly Cairns, Nina Vellani, Karen & Walt Trolson, Shirley Robertson and Hilary & Michael Nau (for Catherine & Jim Shoemaker).

As always, we are grateful for those monthly donors who are so essential to our success: Terri & Gray Levy, The McCullough Family Gift Fund, Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Catherine Goglia & Jim Shoemaker, Jerry Petrizzo, Heidi Benedict, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Mary & Bob Fitzgerald, Robert Weed, David Flannery, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Janice North and David Flannery.
