Av. México in 5 de Diciembre Gets New Life with Roadwork Project

Puerto Vallarta’s 5 de Diciembre neighborhood is undergoing a fresh transformation as the city begins the rehabilitation of Avenida México, one of its most iconic streets. The renovation, led by the government of Luis Munguía, focuses on improving the stretch between 31 de Octubre and Argentina streets with upgraded cobblestone paving that respects the neighborhood’s traditional look while increasing safety and durability.

The project is designed to improve access to homes, businesses, and hotels in the area, while also enhancing one of the key routes leading to the Malecón, a popular gathering spot for both locals and visitors. By reinforcing the road with updated techniques, the city aims to preserve the neighborhood’s historic feel while making it more accessible and welcoming.

According to Germán Plascencia Dávalos, head of the Infrastructure and Public Works Department, the renovation will not only improve vehicle traffic but also give priority to pedestrians as part of a larger effort to revitalize public spaces and support cultural tourism.

“The roadway will be renovated, prioritizing pedestrian traffic as an integral part of the rehabilitation of the Malecón,” he said. “This will give us a greater presence and bring benefits to both locals and tourists.”

This effort is part of a broader plan to restore public areas that have long been overlooked, reaffirming the city’s commitment to revitalizing neighborhoods from the ground up. The updated infrastructure is expected to bring lasting benefits to the community while strengthening Puerto Vallarta’s position as a welcoming and culturally rich destination.
