Puerto Vallarta marked a meaningful moment in its cultural calendar last night with the return of La Noche del Gran Milagro (The Night of the Great Miracle), a beloved nativity play that celebrates 30 years of uninterrupted performances in the city. Written and directed by Jalisco playwright Alberto Fabián Sahagún Orozco, the production has become a lasting symbol of the Christmas season for local families and visitors alike.
Winner of the National Pastorelas Award in 2003, the play blends humor, social commentary, and classic elements of Mexican popular theater. Its clever dialogue and approachable storytelling have allowed it to connect with audiences across generations, turning each December performance into a shared community experience.

Performances are held nightly at 8:00 pm through December 22 on the esplanade of the Cuale Cultural Center, with free admission. The open-air setting reinforces the production’s mission of bringing theater into public spaces, while its satirical tone and familiar themes continue to resonate with viewers of all ages.
For three decades, La Noche del Gran Milagro has remained relevant by staying true to its roots while reflecting the everyday realities of its audience. Its longevity has made it a cultural benchmark in Puerto Vallarta and a clear example of how popular theater can endure through consistent public support.
The Vallarta Institute of Culture has invited residents and visitors to attend the performances, highlighting the work’s artistic and social value. Supported by the municipal government led by Mayor Luis Munguía, the production forms part of the city’s year-end cultural program, reaffirming theater’s close connection to the community and its role in keeping local traditions alive.
