Brander Vallarta Medical Mask Project

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In preparation for the cases of COVID-19 that will arrive here in the Banderas Bay area, a group of volunteers is working around the clock to ensure there are sufficient face masks, disposable gowns and bed sheets for the local health care industry, mainly for the public sector where, even on a normal day, there are not enough medical supplies.

In coordination with Pam Thompson-Webb a group of concerned citizens and local businesses are stepping up. This week, I personally had the pleasure of delivering a bunch of masks to folks at San Javier Hospital, to have them sterilized and packaged, to prepare for distribution at the public hospitals throughout the bay.

There is a dedicated team taking this project on but they need help. Caroline Caliz, Leigh Robinson, Jeremy Satterfield, Robina Oliver and a team of volunteers assisting them have all really stepped up and are working tirelessly to make sure the money required is received, materials procured, products sewn and then delivered where they are required.

There is still an urgent need for additional drivers, sewers and definitely more money. And not to worry; they are making sure that all the social distancing protocols are taking place if you are volunteering. All of the monies are documented and everything is very transparent.

Our public hospitals also need 2.20m x 2.00m single bed sheets. If you have sheets that you can donate, Pam Thompson-Webb has set up a bin in the parking lots of Hospital San Javier Hospital, across the street from where the cruise ships dock. Just ask for the security guard. No one is allowed inside the hospital at this time to bring donations.

If you would like masks for your family and loved ones, these will be available for sale. Proceeds will be used to help compensate employees of the businesses that are volunteering to help. Send your request to pvresponds(at)gmail.com. Include the number of masks you would like to purchase and, if for children, the age of each child.

And here’s the most important part. If you would like to join in and help out, either by volunteering or donating supplies, please send your contact information and the type of support that you are able to provide – i.e., delivering supplies, donating money, sewing, donating bed sheets – to pvresponds(at)gmail.com. You will be contacted shortly with necessary information.

Again, I would like to personally thank this great group of volunteers for working hard to protect all of us. We cannot say thank you enough. Bravo, Puerto Vallarta, for once again stepping up.
