Cruise Ship Activity Continues Strong in May for Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta will welcome 10 international cruise ships this May, one more than the same month last year, signaling a steady flow of tourism as the cruise season begins to ease into the summer low period, which runs from June to September.

According to the National Port System Administration (Asipona), the Carnival Panorama will dock three times this month, while the Navigator of the Seas and Island Princess are each scheduled for two visits. The third week of May will be the most active, with four cruise ship arrivals, including two double dockings. Notably, the Odyssey will remain overnight from Wednesday the 14th to Thursday the 15th.

Adding to the maritime activity, two vessels from the United States Coast Guard will also be visiting. The USCGC Eagle, a 90-meter-long sailing ship used to train future officers, will be in port from Friday the 9th through Monday the 12th. The USCGC Earl Cunningham, a fast response vessel, will arrive Sunday the 11th and remain until Tuesday the 13th. For two days, both ships will share space at docks 1 and 2.

A particularly busy day will be Tuesday the 13th, when the Carnival Panorama, Navigator of the Seas, and the Earl Cunningham will all be in port.

So far this year, Puerto Vallarta has received 76 cruise ship arrivals—five fewer than this time last year. However, ships have been arriving with stronger passenger occupancy, a positive sign for the local economy as the city continues to shine as a top coastal destination.
