Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As the year draws to a close, Puerto Vallarta is gearing up for another successful holiday season, with the destination already buzzing with excitement. Tourists are flocking to this picturesque spot on the Mexican Pacific to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year in style.
From now until early January, Puerto Vallarta expects to welcome nearly 200,000 visitors, with 122,473 coming from within Mexico and 77,308 from abroad.
Local hotels, beaches, restaurants, and shopping centers are seeing an uptick in activity, with hotel occupancy rates projected to average 85.2%, and possibly peak over 92% as the holidays approach. This translates to nearly 466,303 room nights booked between December 16 and January 6, 2025.
The boost in tourism will have a significant economic impact, with national visitors spending an average of $9,058 pesos per stay, while international tourists are expected to spend about $35,831 pesos. The total estimated economic contribution for the season is approximately 3.88 billion pesos.
In addition to high visitor numbers, Puerto Vallarta continues to climb in popularity among American travelers. According to Allianz Partners USA, Puerto Vallarta has moved up to fourth place in their rankings of the most popular international destinations for Americans at the end of the year, surpassing other top spots like Punta Cana and Aruba. This growing interest is a testament to Puerto Vallarta’s appeal, combining stunning beaches, rich local culture, and unmatched hospitality.
“Puerto Vallarta is consolidating its position as a favorite destination for American travelers seeking tropical warmth and unique experiences,” said Luis Villaseñor, from the city’s Tourism Trust. “Its charm, from the picturesque beaches to the welcoming atmosphere, makes it an ideal getaway.”
The city’s infrastructure continues to support this growth, with more than 50 direct flight routes and an improved highway connecting it more efficiently to other parts of Mexico. As a result, Puerto Vallarta is on track to break records for visitor numbers, hotel occupancy, and economic impact, surpassing its historic 2023 figures.
Puerto Vallarta’s charm lies not only in its natural beauty – set against the backdrop of the Sierra Madre mountains and Banderas Bay – but also in its ability to offer both relaxation and adventure. With over 50 outdoor activities, from beach sports to mountain hiking, the destination caters to all types of travelers. It also boasts world-class infrastructure, including four golf courses, a modern airport, and an award-winning culinary scene with more than 2,000 restaurants offering a variety of global cuisines.
As one of Mexico’s most LGBTQ+ friendly destinations and a top choice for destination weddings, Puerto Vallarta’s cultural and entertainment offerings ensure that there’s always something to enjoy. Whether it’s a food festival, a sporting event, or a night out at a local show, the city is ready to give every visitor an unforgettable experience.
With its mix of tradition, modernity, and an unparalleled sense of community, Puerto Vallarta stands out as a world-class destination. As the year comes to a close, the city is set for yet another remarkable season of tourism, solidifying its place as a beloved travel gem on the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
