Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta is set to undergo a significant transformation as the city’s government, led by Mayor Luis Munguía, announces the extension of the northern section of the Malecón. This long-awaited project will breathe new life into one of the city’s most popular and iconic tourist areas.
The expansion will extend from 31 de Octubre Street to Argentina Street on Avenida México, creating a seamless new route that connects the Malecón to Hidalgo Park. This project will enhance the northern end of the boardwalk, offering a fresh and inviting space for both visitors and locals.

In a recent Public Works meeting, the project received official approval. Mayor Munguía highlighted the importance of careful planning and efficient execution to ensure the project is completed smoothly. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the city’s infrastructure and public spaces.
In addition to the Malecón expansion, the city is using funds from the Federal Maritime Land Zone to maintain existing sections of the boardwalk. These ongoing efforts include updating lighting, urban equipment, planters, and installing a new automated irrigation system. Looking ahead, the Municipal Government is also partnering with the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust to introduce further improvements that will make the historic downtown area shine.
This project represents a commitment to preserving and enhancing Puerto Vallarta’s beauty and appeal, ensuring its status as a top destination for years to come.
