Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.
SHELTER UPDATE

Not much to report since last month. Ten new kittens and five adoptions at PetCo. Our last cat census showed 197 adults living in the yard and another 60 cats or kittens in the casitas or clinic. We’ve had beautiful Vallarta weather with cool evenings and warm days… and even a rare January rain that was just enough to freshen the air and clear the dust!
To answer the many inquiries about planned events, we still have no immediate plans to resume Kitty BINGO or Shelter Tours due to continued Covid concerns. We have a regular group of vaccinated volunteers who go to the shelter on Thursday mornings to clean litter boxes, socialize kittens and assist Dra. Eva in the clinic. Due to a lack of volunteers with cars, and also a limit to how many people can safely be there at one time, the number we can take is limited. Overall, the shelter looks good, just VERY full!
VIRTUAL ADOPTION: BETTY
Virtual Adoption is a great way to say “Thanks” or as a gift to a cat-loving friend – or yourself! – while supporting the PuRR Shelter cats that will live out their lives in the gardens. Last month we had one very special Virtual Adoption by Laurie Mackenthun who visited the shelter and chose her cat. She picked a little gray & white female with only one eye and named her “BETTY” in honor of Betty White!! You can see a list of candidated and their history on our website.
MARILYN’S BENCH

The loss of Marilyn Khan last May was a huge loss that we continue to feel. She was such a little dynamo, always stepping up to do what needed to be done. She was an inspiration to all of us. As many of you know, the cover of our 2022 PuRR Project calendar shows one tribute to her, our new kitty shelter dedicated to her memory.
Marilyn’s dear friend, Paula Dulak, gathered together several other friends to commission a tile in her memory. It’s on a bench which is located in the Lazaro Cardenas Park in Old Town, next to the stairs going up to the gazebo on the south side.
If you are in the area, please stop by and blow her a kiss. I know she continues to guide us from above.
GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!
We are more than grateful for the people who continue to support the PuRR Shelter with regular donations: Carol & Charlie McCullough, Gary Phillips, Monica Pencz, Trisha Aljoe, Joanne Bryla, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Trudy Dixon, Heidi Benedict, Jalene Taylor, Larry Sherwood, Timothy Oleno, Elizabeth Fuerhern, Jerry Petrizzo, Robert Weed and Janice North.
