Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Get ready, Vallarta – the real Queen of Comedy and Song is back as our emcee for the most fabulous night of the year! The unstoppable Amy Armstrong will emcee What A Drag 2026 at Teatro Vallarta, bringing her signature wit, powerhouse vocals, and infectious energy to the stage.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in the charming suburb of Canton, Amy grew up as part of “the Three Musketeers” with her mom and dad. “We did everything together,” she recalls with a grin. “It was love, laughter, and a lot of Motown music!”
These days, Amy splits her time between Puerto Vallarta and Kirkwood, Missouri. After touring the Midwest this summer, she’s thrilled to be back under the Vallarta spotlight – where sequins, sass, and laughter rule the night.
“I have no children, no brothers or sisters, and both of my parents have passed. I’m so grateful for my friends because they have become my family.”
A beloved performer for over 30 years, Amy is known for her unique blend of music, storytelling, and rapid-fire comedy. “Music is the love of my life,” she says. “I still adore performing as much as I did when I started – maybe even more!”
When she’s not commanding the stage, Armstrong is hunting through thrift shops for quirky treasures. “I collect art and oddities,” she laughs. “And let’s be real – nothing beats Mexican art and a good bargain!”
Her heart, however, belongs to the community. Introduced to What A Drag by her mentor Tammy Prust, Amy instantly connected with Casa Esperanza Women’s Shelter. “Empowering women and their children to start a new chapter in their lives brings me so much joy,” she says. “Being part of this cause is truly special.”
As emcee, Amy thrives on the electric energy that fills the theater each year. “The crowd is amazing! The energy is off the charts – my improv comedy really shines when everyone’s having fun. Plus, watching these straight men transform with their dream teams into full-on drag performers? Mesmerizing!” Still, even the queen of comedy has one tough part of the night: “I’m not looking forward to crowning just one winner. They all work so hard – in my book, every single one of them deserves it.”
Amy’s journey is as inspiring as it is entertaining. A seven-year cancer survivor, she underwent much of her treatment right here in Vallarta – and she hasn’t stopped shining since. “And yes, I’m an advocate for THC and CBD for both healing and dealing with the world,” she adds with a wink.
When she’s not hosting What A Drag, you can catch Amy lighting up the stage at Nacho Daddy with her hit show “Funk It!” every Wednesday and Saturday through December. Starting in January, Saturdays get even hotter as Sargento and Mark Hartman join her for their brand-new show “She, He, Him” – while Wednesdays keep the groove going with Funk It! Keep an eye out, too, for Amy’s special Billy Joel tribute shows on select Sundays!
Join the fun. Make this the best year yet!
