Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez is expected to visit Puerto Vallarta between August 28 and 30 to oversee the progress of key infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of the eastern side of Francisco Medina Ascencio Boulevard. This visit is expected to accelerate the pace of rehabilitation work on this vital thoroughfare.
Due to concerns over the slow progress and resulting inconveniences caused by the roadwork, the Jalisco Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) has confirmed that the project will be completed by the end of September 2024. Governor Alfaro is expected to inaugurate the finished boulevard before the conclusion of his term in office.
The current construction plan aims to complete the concrete paving from Los Tules Avenue, between Plaza Caracol and the IMSS, to Brasilia Street near the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit, by Friday. Work is currently underway on the section from Fluvial to Los Tules.
The final stage of the project, which began on June 4, involves comprehensive upgrades, including the replacement of hydraulic and sanitary networks, paving with stamped hydraulic concrete, and the construction of a cycle path, sidewalks, lighting, signage, and landscaping. This work spans the stretch from Mérida Street in the Versalles neighborhood to the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Unit.
Omar Hernández, the SIOP project supervisor, confirmed that the concrete paving from Fluvial to Brasilia should be in place by next Friday. Although minor tasks, such as sidewalk work, will continue, the main goal is to have the road surface ready.
One of the remaining challenges is addressing drainage issues at the junction with Hamburgo Street, where rainwater accumulates due to the road’s elevation. Hernández has committed to adjusting the bike path and pedestrian section to improve drainage and prevent flooding.
