Puerto Vallarta, México – The heart of Puerto Vallarta is undergoing a striking transformation as the “Enchulemos Jalisco” program breathes new life into the city’s traditional architecture.
This facade improvement project, a collaborative effort between the Jalisco State Government and the municipal administration led by Mayor Luis Munguía, seeks to restore the aesthetic charm of the Historic Center. By blending historical preservation with fresh coats of paint, the initiative ensures that the city’s most iconic district remains an inviting landmark for both locals and international visitors.
The revitalization effort is far from a simple aesthetic update; it is a carefully coordinated project involving the Secretariat of the Social Assistance System and the Corazón Urbano civil association. Together, these partners are restoring building facades to enhance the appearance of streets and public spaces that define the city’s historic core.
Mayor Munguía emphasized that every renovation adheres strictly to the Visual Image Regulations and the Fachada Vallartense proposal. This framework was developed through a partnership between the municipality, the State Secretariat of Culture, and academics from the Technological Institute to ensure the city’s unique identity is honored and protected.
This commitment to authenticity is personal for the Mayor, who grew up in the Historic Center and maintains a deep connection to its history and community. During a recent tour of the initial renovations, Munguía was joined by neighborhood residents to witness the first wave of completed buildings. The updated exteriors now display a palette that reflects the area’s traditional character, replacing weathered surfaces with polished, classic tones that celebrate Vallarta’s heritage.
Jesús Palacios, president of the Historic Center Advisory Council, highlighted that these improvements allow the district to reclaim its status as one of the city’s premier attractions. He noted that while many coastal destinations offer modern amenities, it is the soul of the Historic Center that distinguishes Puerto Vallarta from other beach resorts. By prioritizing these structural and visual enhancements, the city is not only preserving its past but also securing its future as a culturally significant and welcoming destination.
