Housing and Hope: Puerto Vallarta Hosts Key Development Meeting

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Leaders in housing development and government officials gathered in Puerto Vallarta last week for the 14th Annual Meeting of the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (CANADEVI) Jalisco.

The event, titled Vivienda y Ciudad (Housing and the City), brought together experts to tackle one of the most pressing issues for Mexican families: gaining access to safe and affordable homes.

Mayor Luis Munguía González welcomed attendees, highlighting Puerto Vallarta’s potential for responsible growth beyond its reputation as a tourist hotspot. He restated his administration’s commitment to creating public policies that support the rising demand for housing while protecting the region’s natural environment. This commitment, he noted, ensures that urban expansion is both organized and sustainable.

Joaquín Vaca Elguero, the president of CANADEVI Jalisco, discussed the significant challenge of affordability. He explained that a large portion of families in the state can only afford homes priced up to 600,000 pesos.

The meeting was a critical step in addressing this issue, aiming to kick-start the new Programa Nacional de Vivienda para el Bienestar (National Housing for Well-being Program) in Jalisco. This national initiative, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, is designed to provide adequate housing for those who need it most.

The event underscored Puerto Vallarta’s role as a leader in promoting structured urban development and access to decent housing. By bringing together the Government of Mexico, CANADEVI, and local government, the meeting set the stage for launching new projects focused on improving the quality of life for working families in the region.
