Did You Know? Mardi Gras Edition:

Mardi Gras is about music and excitement. It’s one big holiday in New Orleans – and we will celebrate it in Puerto Vallarta with our fundraiser on February 4. Revelers know to wear costumes or at least dress in purple, green, and gold, and adorn themselves with long, colorful beads and elaborate masks.

Mardi Gras is a tradition that dates back thousands of years to pagan celebrations of spring and fertility, including the raucous Roman festivals of Saturnalia and Lupercalia. When Christianity arrived in Rome, religious leaders decided to incorporate these popular local traditions into the new faith, an easier task than abolishing them altogether.

As a result, the excess and debauchery of the Mardi Gras season became a prelude to Lent, the 40 days of fasting and penance between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. Mardi Gras is celebrated around the world, including in Denmark, Italy, Canada, Germany, and, of course, in New Orleans, USA.

Special OSV Canadian Guest Artists: FreePlay

February’s concerts will feature the extraordinary Canadian guest artists FreePlay. Using only two voices and innovative live-looping techniques, FreePlay promises a genre-bending a cappella performance that takes audiences on a global musical journey without leaving their seats.

Whether you’re a classical aficionado, a jazz enthusiast, or just looking for a fun way to support a good cause, IAMPV has something for you. Mark your calendar for these exciting events and help keep the music alive in Puerto Vallarta!

Calling All Musicians: Join OSV and Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra!

IAMPV extends an open invitation to musicians who can read music and are eager for a fantastic experience. No audition is required, and instruments may be provided. OSV has openings for brass, violins, violas, cellos, bass, and percussion, with rehearsals on Saturday mornings. Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra welcomes drummers, guitarists, pianists, brass players, and percussionists, with rehearsals on Saturday afternoons.

Instruments and Support Needed:

IAMPV is actively seeking donations of instruments, including a bassoon and a grand piano for the university. Additionally, the organization requires a professional sound system with mics, cables, speakers, a computer with a USB port, and smartphones. Financial contributions are also welcomed to sustain vital education programs.

Volunteer Opportunities:
IAMPV is on the lookout for a Social Media Lead to manage online outreach. If you can assist, click HERE to volunteer.

Support IAMPV:
Donate to IAMPV through etina.org. U.S. citizens/residents will receive a tax receipt for their contributions. For more information, email iampvinfo(at)gmail.com.
