Iconic Dolls, Barbie and Ken, Honor Day of the Dead Tradition

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – One of the best-known celebrations in México and around the world, Día de Muertos, is fast approaching, and for the seventh year in a row, Barbie and Ken are returning to honor the cherished holiday. This year’s collector dolls, designed by Ari Sarinana, showcase a stunning attention to detail that pays tribute to the beloved traditions, symbols, and beautiful colors of the season.

Each year, Día de Muertos brings families together to honor those who came before, celebrating love, memory, and the connection between worlds. The 2025 Signature Barbie and Ken dolls bring this tradition to life in exquisite detail, offering collectors timeless treasures that beautifully embody the spirit of the holiday.

The Barbie doll is dressed in a magnificent, multi-tiered gown. This three-level skirt design symbolically represents the three stages of life often seen in traditional altars, or ofrendas: the underworld, the world of the living, and the spirit world.

Her cream-colored dress is adorned with orange, yellow, and pink ribbons, and features the cempasúchil flower motif. These bright orange marigolds, known as the official flowers of the holiday, are believed to help guide spirits to their family altars. Barbie’s look is completed with a matching flower headpiece, dramatic jewelry, and intricate sugar-skull-style makeup.

The Ken doll complements her beautifully, dressed in a traditional Jalisco-style charro outfit. He wears a gold-accented vest and pants, a sombrero, and intricately detailed boots. The cempasúchil flowers are also integrated into his ensemble, embroidered on his shirt.

Both dolls feature the signature Calavera-style makeup, capturing the festive and respectful aesthetic of the holiday. From Ken’s embroidered shirt to Barbie’s elaborate face paint, every aspect of the design tells a story of memory and love.

These figures are more than just collectible toys; they are miniature works of art that capture the spirit of a tradition that reminds us that death is a continuation of love.

The 2025 Barbie and Ken Día de Muertos dolls are currently available for purchase through Mattel Creations, and at Amazon.com.mx.
