Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Airports across Jalisco are seeing a welcome return to stability today as flight schedules across the region resume their regular rhythm. Following two days of significant disruptions, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) confirmed this morning that both Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta International Airports have successfully restored the vast majority of their operations.
The recovery is already visible in the numbers. Guadalajara International Airport is currently operating at 96% of its scheduled capacity, while Puerto Vallarta is close behind at 95%. Although a small number of cancellations and delays remain – specifically 22 in Guadalajara and four in Puerto Vallarta – these are largely considered part of the logistical process of reactivating a full international itinerary.
This restoration of service is highlighted by the return of several major Canadian carriers, which had temporarily suspended flights due to recent security concerns in Western Mexico. As of Tuesday, February 24, airlines including WestJet, Sunwing, Air Transat, and Porter Airlines have officially resumed their routes. WestJet noted in a formal statement that a thorough review of current conditions supported their decision to fly once again, emphasizing that popular resort areas remain open and ready to welcome visitors.
To assist travelers whose plans were impacted by the recent pauses, Air Canada has taken the proactive step of deploying larger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on routes from Toronto and Montreal. By utilizing these wide-body planes, the airline has added 258 extra seats to Puerto Vallarta, ensuring that passengers can reach their destinations as quickly as possible. Most airlines, including Air Canada and Porter, are also maintaining flexible rebooking policies through the end of the week to provide further peace of mind.
While most carriers are back to a full schedule, Flair Airlines is currently in the final stages of its own restoration process, having rebooked affected passengers onto flights departing throughout the day.
The atmosphere at the terminals remains orderly and secure. The National Guard continues to maintain a preventive presence at both facilities, ensuring that terminal buildings, operational areas, and access roads function efficiently. This coordinated effort between airport authorities and security forces allows travelers to navigate the airports with confidence, focusing on their journeys while GAP continues its commitment to operational excellence and passenger well-being.
This return to high-capacity travel serves as a positive indicator for the region’s tourism and logistics sectors as they move past the brief interruption. With last weekend’s disruptions now behind us and several major events scheduled for this coming March, this stabilization ensures that Jalisco remains a primary gateway for international travelers.
